Just a quick update before I head off to Reading for 5 days.

I went to see Scott Pilgrim last night at the ICA as part of the Ultra Culture Cinema screenings. They did a great competition beforehand where members of the audience had to act out the trailer (complete with cardboard props) and whoever was the best won some prizes. They threw the leftovers into the audience and I managed to catch a tshirt! It shall become my new sleeping shirt.

The film itself was brilliant. The whole first half is pretty much copied from the comics word for word, and most of the casting was spot on. Not sure if I liked Kim as much though, she seems less constantly unimpressed in the comics? The end half had been tweaked to make it fit into the length of the film and I think it worked well. They also used a lot of clever little bits like the name labels and split screens to give it a comic book feel. On the whole it was highly enjoyable and I think I’ll be going to see it many more times!

Just a few more things to mention about it; first is the soundtrack. Beck does the Sex Bob-omb songs, Metric do The Clash At Demonhead and Broken Social Scene are Crash And The Boys. This in itself would be amazing, but there are also a whole host of other great tracks making up the soundtrack, from The Rolling Stones to Blood Red Shoes. I’m not usually one for film soundtracks, but I downloaded this one as soon as I heard the tracklisting.

Secondly, Mezco have got the toy license for the series, and have not only made some fantastically cute Ramona and Scott plushes, but a Scott figure was previewed at SDCC! No word on a release date yet for the figure, but I’m hoping they do a whole series of them.

V festival was quite nice this year, in the way that it’s nice to go to a scummy bar packed full of chavs and still leave with all your belongings and limbs. I only went this year because my mum had two weekend tickets, and my stepdad couldn’t get the time off work so it was a freebie. Most of the bands I had seen before, but some personal highlights were Passion Pit (even though no-one around me knew the songs), being on the barrier for Paul Weller with my mum, Groove Armada, Calvin Harris and Kasabian.

The weather was quite nice which was a bonus, and a friend joined us for the second day, but the whole festival reeks of commercialism and trying to make money out of everything. Plus the people are the kind that have never been to a festival before, and whose favourite bands are Oasis and Kings of Leon. It drives me up the wall! I’m definitely not going next year, not unless I get another free ticket! I’ll go to Glastonbury instead.

It was my 23rd birthday last week, so I decided to get myself a haircut! I went for an asymmetrical bob, a bit different to what I usually have.

(Sorry I look a bit shocked, not quite sure what’s going on there!)

I also realised I’ve amassed quite a collection of Tatty Devine jewellery. It’s not going to stop me buying more though! They have a new collection out in a few weeks and I’m itching to go and visit their Covent Garden store.

Kidrobot are doing a countdown on their website at the moment for the Dunny 2010 series, revealing one figure per day until the release date. At the moment I’m really loving the Damarak, Sketchup and Travis Cain designs.

When I compare them to the latest Qee offering from Toy2R (The Designer Collection Series 6), they are just far superior in design and originality! Out of the Qee’s I’m only really keen on the Peskimo Melee Cat.

I’ve also been checking out rumours on the Canon 60D this week. It seems like it might be announce at the Canon EXPO in September and released in October. I’ve been thinking about upgrading my camera, but the 5D seems a bit too big and expensive, and the 50D has been out for too long, so the 60D release is perfect. I’ll start saving my pennies now!

I went to Scotland over the weekend to visit a friend, and although the weather was mostly rainy and cold we managed to have a good time. Here are some photos from Glasgow, Alloa and Stirling.

In other photography news, my Fisheye 2 broke a while back (I lost a 2/3rds full film) so I hadn’t been using it, but I managed to fix it the other day. It wasn’t winding on after shots, so I taped the end of the film to the spool and it seems to be ok now. Fingers crossed I don’t manage to break it again and lose another film.
