New toys

Posted in toys - (0 Comments)

I haven’t blogged about toys in a good few months, mostly because I’m trying to cut down at the moment due to space issues. I’ve been very excited about a few releases though; the Tokidoki Unicornos, Dunny series 2011 and the very late arrival of my Scott Pilgrim figures.

The Unicornos are super cute and it’s been so hard to resist buying them all. I’ve managed to collect three as it is, but it will have to stay that way for a while at least.

I’ve only treated myself to one of the new Dunnys but I managed to get a brilliant design, the Huck Gee Zombie dunny. What a great first pick!

And finally the Scott Pilgrim figures look just as good as I’d hoped. The purple tshirted one was originally supposed to come with a yellow jacket, which has sadly been scrapped, so to avoid having two almost-identical figures next to each other I have put them on opposite sides of the room. Now I just need the rest of the main characters!

Since I was unhappy with Aidan’s first faceup, I ordered some smaller brushes on the internet and attempted another go last weekend. I have to admit, I was pretty much terrified when I removed the first face with acetone-free nail varnish remover. My fingers stuck to the resin where the remover was and I was worried that I was somehow melting the resin, so I quickly scrubbed the head clean and then put it in water to clean it. Luckily no damage was done (as far as I can tell) but I’m quite apprehensive about removing it again, so I’ll stick with this face for as long as possible.

It took me two days to do this faceup, as I redid the eyelashes and lips a fair few times and I was blushing the body at the same time. Overall I like it a lot more; it’s less feminine and more natural. I’m not so sure on the top eyelashes, but he looked a bit odd without any so I’ve left them there for the time being. Next up, I attempt to sew clothes!

I had the time to seal Aidan and paint his face today. I’m not 100% happy with it at the moment, but it will do for now and makes him look a bit less creepy!

My first BJD has arrived today!

I somehow turned this bag of bits into a doll.

Next to a Living Dead Doll Fashion Victim (33cm tall) to give a size comparison. He’s a bit huge!

I’ll be painting his face at the weekend so he looks less creepy.

It’s been a bit quiet here over the past week, because I’ve had some job troubles. My current contract came to an end and I wasn’t sure what was happening with the new company I was supposed to be transferring to. But it has worked out ok and I’m on paid leave for a month, so I now have lots of free time on my hands! I’m going to try and get some more acrylic designs drawn up, and work my way through a massive backlog of DVDs and Blurays. I have a terrible habit of buying films and tv series, and then just leaving them on my shelf without watching them. So every few months I have to self-impose a ban on buying new things until I have watched most of the older ones. This week’s task is finishing my Buffy the Vampire Slayer boxset. I bought it two years ago in a sale, watched up to the middle of Season 6 and then left it. I can think of worse things than lying in bed and watching Buffy all day.

Last weekend I had a friend come to visit, so we spent our days wandering London and shopping. I was actually very good and resisted buying anything in Tatty Devine, and then I undid all my good work in Forbidden Planet and Kid Robot. I got myself Amy Pond and the Eleventh Doctor with a fez and a mop from the newest Doctor Who figures, plus some more Qees, Bearbricks and Dunnys. Unfortunately I ended up with quite a few duplicates so I will have to ebay those. I also got the most adorable blind boxed mini Lunartik Teacup, which I loved in the full size but it was far too big for my shelf. I’ll have to take some photos soon as my collection seems to be growing exponentially!
