I’ve been playing with my 15-85mm this weekend and photographing some of my newer toy arrivals.

Spock bearbrick from series 19, and the Kirk and Uhura doublepack that I picked up in New York.

Shaun of the Dead figures I got for my birthday.

One of the best things about the new year, is all the fantastic sales that come with it. I’ve been perusing my favourite stores online and have come away with some nice purchases from Threadless and Tatty Devine. From Tatty Devine, I got a fob watch necklace, a glittery bowtie ring and a leaves necklace to match the bracelet I bought last year. It was only after I bought these, that I noticed the zip necklace I’ve always wanted was in the sale too! It will have to wait til next time I suppose.

My biggest sale buy though, was a Korean resin ball jointed doll. Ever since I got into toy collecting I have lusted after these. They are fairly large in size (about 1/3 scale), fully customisable and made in small runs, and as such are usually very expensive. Luckily for me one of my favourite doll makers Custom House have been having mad sales, so I managed to pick one up for under $100. It comes unpainted and unstrung so I will have to tackle those things myself, but I’m sure I will manage. They have quite a reputation for sending out the dolls after a massive wait so I’m not expecting him until mid-March, but it gives me time to buy supplies and clothes.

Hey kids, it’s blog time again. I’ve been super busy since Halloween so I haven’t even gotten my photos off my camera yet, but I will say that it was an awesome party and the cakes turned out well. Have a strange photo to tide you over for now:

Halloween night saw the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster gig at Heaven, and I actually half considered not going as I was so tired from the previous night. The support acts were a strange motley crew of bands, with the first band Arrows of Love being pretty good but only playing to about 3 people, the second I can’t even remember their name and the third was a surprisingly dire Robots In Disguise. If you know me at all, you will know that Robots are one of my favourite bands, but their whole set just felt very lacklustre and I couldn’t even be bothered to sing along. I’m not sure if it was my own tiredness, the crowd’s lack of enthusiasm or a rubbish performance but either way I was disappointed.

Luckily Eighties Matchbox put in a stellar performance which woke me up and had me thrashing away on the barrier with the rest of the crowd. It was such a sweaty, intense atmosphere that the bands facepaint had melted away halfway through the first song. The security guard in front of me looked like he was having the time of his life, and kept saying “You’re all mental, it’s brilliant” as he hauled crowdsurfer after crowdsurfer over the barrier. The setlist was a mishmash of older and newer tracks, although I was disappointed that In The Garden got overlooked. Another brilliant night with Eighties Matchbox, and I even had Guy hand me his setlist!

On Tuesday I finally had the fortune of attending a recording of Never Mind The Buzzcocks. I had figured out that the guest hosts remaining for the final three episodes were Tim Westwood, Frankie Boyle and Robert Webb and we were praying to every deity that it wouldn’t be Tim. How unlucky we were! I don’t think I have ever seen a more unfunny person in my life. Luckily the guests were vaguely funny, and Phil and Noel more than made up for it. I’m curious to see how it ends up being edited together, as it seemed so patchy and not very cohesive. It was still a good free night though, even with the tube strike starting and having to battle buses to get home.

Other than that, nothing much has been going on in my life. I have become slightly obsessed with Bearbricks though. I never liked them much (not keen on the shape and I prefer the artist based designs of Qees) but I’ve been on a quest to get the Spock Bearbrick from Series 19, and have ended up with quite a few others, including the awesome Iron Man one! May do some photos of them soon.

Doctor Who

Posted in life | toys - (0 Comments)

My Doctor Who 11 doctors boxset finally arrived, I was so pleased! I had sent a complaint last week saying how it had been awaiting stock for 2 months now, and that I would like a concrete arrival date or I would cancel my order, and lo and behold they post it! Amazing how a bit of complaining can speed things up. They look brilliant though and I was having a good play with them last night.

Here are a few quick photos of them from my iphone. I’ll try and get around to taking some proper photos at the weekend.

I had a friend from France staying with me over the weekend for the Muse gigs at Wembley Stadium. I indulged in some shopping at Tatty Devine and Forbidden Planet, and we had fun at Hamleys before actually making our way to Wembley.

The first gig was pretty run of the mill and in my opinion had the worst of the support acts (White Rabbits, The Big Pink, Lily Allen). We got good seats on left side of the stage because we are lazy, and although the visuals and theatrics were nice, I had seen it all before in Paris. The setlist was predictable and I did not enjoy the inclusion of Neutron Star Collision and I Belong To You, so needless to say I came home feeling rather blah about it all.

The next day however, totally blew it out of the water. We attempted to queue for a bit, but when we got inside we decided to sit down anyway. This time on the right of the stage so we got a different view. The support acts were miles better (I Am Arrows, White Lies and Biffy Clyro) with Biffy getting such a good reception you could have believed it was their own gig. Muse seemed a lot happier and even said something along the lines of “We know you are the real fans tonight”, but it was the setlist that made it amazing. Oh the setlist <3. Not only did they play MK Ultra and Bliss, but they rolled out Map of the Problematique, Citizen Erased and Ruled by Secrecy! A whole bunch of rarely played fan favourites. It really made the night so much better, and sort of restored my faith in them. To end, here are some photos of the treats I bought myself on Friday!
